Product Development and Production

Mist Faucet Aerator Development and Production for Brands and Importers

Developing a mist faucet aerator brings together the water-flow concept, internal structure, sample performance and manufacturing.

For brands, importers and designers with a product concept, design or reference sample, Jay&Min can contribute structural development, sampling, trial tooling and testing, followed by production tooling and batch manufacturing.

Turning a Mist-Flow Concept into a Product Structure

Mist faucet aerators refine the water stream to support the product’s water-saving design goals. Development brings together flow, stream pattern, sealing and the fit between components.

Small structural adjustments can affect sample performance. Design discussions therefore progress alongside physical evaluation: develop a structure, observe the water flow, record feedback and refine the sample.

In a European project, the buyer and design team established the requirements, while Jay&Min contributed design refinement and manufacturing implementation. Factory visits, video meetings and sample feedback helped advance development.

1. Define Product Requirements and Development Tasks

Customer evaluating faucet water flow during a factory visit

Reference samples, design materials and technical discussions establish the intended function and the aspects of the existing design that need refinement.

The European project began with sample evaluation, visits by purchasing and quality teams, and discussions with the designers. This work established a basis for structural development.

2. Develop a Structure and Refine Samples

Project team discussing product development at the factory

Jay&Min proposes an initial structure, reviews 3D samples with the customer and makes adjustments based on feedback.

In this case, the initial design was submitted in September 2023. Subsequent sample reviews and refinements led to design confirmation and trial tooling.

Physical samples allow designers to observe product behaviour and give manufacturers a basis for adjustments before production tooling.

3. Refine Actual Water-Flow Performance

Evaluating the product in different flow modes is an important part of mist aerator development.

Feedback in this project covered mist and spray patterns, water delivery at low flow and sealing details. The teams refined the product through continued feedback and sample adjustments.

Actual water-flow evaluation turns functional requirements into specific development tasks and provides a shared sample for discussion.

4. Complete Trial Tooling and Testing

Following trial tooling, the project moves into further evaluation.

Between March and April 2024, trial-tooling samples passed an SGS life test of 20,000 cycles. Core components underwent industrial CT measurement and met the project requirements. Production samples were later sent to TÜV in Germany and passed functional and chemical testing.

Testing and measurement support sample development and production preparation, progressively establishing the conditions for batch manufacturing.

5. Progress to Production, Inspection and Delivery

Finished aerator, installation accessories and instructions

Jay&Min undertakes batch manufacturing and cooperates with customer and third-party inspection.

This project entered production tooling in May 2024, followed by production and inspection in October and shipment in November, completing the cooperation from design development to delivery.

Project Experience: Keeping Design and Manufacturing Connected

Mist faucet aerator development requires continued communication between designers and manufacturers. Structural proposals, sample feedback, testing and tooling adjustments all contribute to progress.

Jay&Min’s contribution to this case included:

  • Contributing to the product design and proposing a structural solution.
  • Producing samples and refining them based on feedback.
  • Developing trial and production tooling.
  • Supporting testing, measurement and customer reviews.
  • Organising batch production, inspection and shipment.

These activities connect development with manufacturing and support customers bringing a custom water-saving product into production.
